Leadwood Issues Precautionary Boil Water Advisory

Leadwood, Mo. (KFMO) - The City of Leadwood has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for all residents served by Leadwood’s city water system.

The advisory was issued Wednesday, September 9, 2026, due to equipment failure at the city’s water treatment plant.

City officials say crews are working to correct the problem as quickly as possible. The city will provide an update when the advisory is lifted.

While the advisory is in effect, residents should take the following precautions:

Boil water vigorously for three minutes before using it for drinking, diluting fruit juices, food preparation, or brushing teeth. Allow the water to cool sufficiently before drinking.
Dispose of existing ice cubes and do not use ice from household automatic ice makers. Make new ice using water that has been boiled.
Disinfect dishes and other food-contact surfaces by immersing them for at least one minute in clean tap water containing one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.

The city says that after repairs are completed, special water samples will be collected and tested. Once the samples are confirmed to be safe, the boil water advisory will be lifted and residents will be notified.

Residents with questions about the advisory can contact Leadwood City Hall at 573-562-7125.
