Missouri Department of Agriculture Urges Reporting of Missing or Found Livestock After Flooding

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Department of Agriculture is encouraging residents across flood-affected areas of Southeast Missouri to report missing or found livestock in the aftermath of the recent historic flooding.

Officials say reporting livestock quickly can help reconnect owners with their animals and assist emergency response and recovery efforts.

Residents reporting missing or found livestock should be prepared to provide as much information as possible, including:

• Name, phone number, email address and county.
• Species, quantity, breed and color of the livestock.
• Identifying information such as ear tag numbers, brands, tattoos or other distinguishing marks.
• If livestock has been found, the exact location, including a road name, GPS coordinates, nearby landmark or closest address.
• The date and time the animal was found.

Reports of missing or found livestock, whether the animals are alive or deceased, can be submitted online through the Missouri Department of Agriculture or by calling 573-751-3377.

Officials remind residents that missing or found pets should instead be reported to their local animal control agency or animal shelter.

Livestock producers who experienced animal losses because of the flooding are also encouraged to contact their local USDA Farm Service Agency office to learn about available livestock indemnity assistance programs.
