Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Farmington utility customers will notice a required state fee included on their June utility bills that helps support water quality testing across Missouri.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources requires all public water utilities to collect an annual fee from customer accounts. The revenue from this fee is used to operate the state laboratory responsible for testing drinking water and wastewater systems throughout Missouri, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
The City of Farmington says the charge is collected once per year during the June billing cycle for utility customers.
On bills, the charge will be listed as the “Water Primacy Fee” and the “Sewer Connection Fee.” These line items reflect the state-mandated assessment and are not optional local charges.
City officials note the fee is part of a statewide system designed to maintain consistent water quality monitoring and protect public health.
Residents with questions about the fee or their utility bill can contact Farmington City Utilities at 573-756-2620.
