Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Supreme Court has unanimously struck down a plan by state Republicans to redraw congressional districts ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
Governor Mike Kehoe said on "Fox and Friends" that he believes the ruling is unprecedented, and he says the state intends to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The new congressional districts were passed by the Missouri legislature and signed into law by Kehoe. However, the state Supreme Court says the districts cannot be used unless they are approved in a citizen-led referendum in the fall.
The ruling puts the redistricting plan on hold as the state prepares for the upcoming elections.
