Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is encouraging motorists and boaters to plan for a safe 2026 Labor Day weekend as troopers prepare for increased holiday travel.

Sergeant Dallas Thompson says the Patrol is ready to help keep Missourians safe.

The Patrol will participate in Operation C.A.R.E., or Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort, over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The 2026 Labor Day counting period begins at 6 p.m. Friday, September 4, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 7.

The Patrol is also reminding boaters to use caution on Missouri waterways. During the 2025 Labor Day holiday, nine boating crashes resulted in six injuries and no fatalities. One person drowned during the holiday weekend, and troopers arrested nine people for boating while intoxicated.

The Patrol encourages everyone to plan ahead, make responsible decisions and take steps to help ensure a safe holiday weekend.
