Missouri Task Force 1 Continues Black River Search Operations as State Disaster Response Expands

Reynolds Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri Task Force 1 continued search operations Sunday along the Black River in Reynolds County as state and local agencies pressed forward with flood recovery efforts following the devastating flooding that struck southern Missouri.

Search crews focused on some of the most heavily damaged areas along the Black River, where catastrophic flooding swept through communities after heavy rainfall late last week.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol also successfully recovered the rescue boat that two state troopers were forced to abandon Friday after it struck a submerged line hidden beneath the floodwaters during rescue operations.

Recovery efforts are now shifting toward assessing the full extent of the damage. Regional coordinators with the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) will continue working with local officials throughout the week to complete initial damage assessments, an important step in determining eligibility for additional state and federal disaster assistance.

Medical support also remains in place for affected communities. As of Saturday, the Missouri Disaster Medical Assistance Team (MO DMAT-1) deployed to Lesterville to provide healthcare services for both first responders and flood survivors.

Since arriving, the team has treated several first responders who suffered injuries while navigating flood debris, assisted residents in replacing prescription medications lost during the flooding, and conducted welfare checks on individuals who remain unable to leave their homes because of flood conditions.

State and local emergency officials continue coordinating response and recovery efforts as residents begin the long process of rebuilding after one of the region's most destructive flooding events.
