St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A pickup truck towing a fifth-wheel camper caught fire Monday afternoon along U.S. Highway 67 near the Fairgrounds exit, prompting a response from firefighters from both Leadington and Park Hills.
According to emergency responders, the Leadington Fire Department was dispatched shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, to a reported vehicle fire in the area of the northbound Highway 67 Fairgrounds exit ramp.
Park Hills Fire Brad Wesiss, who was already in the area, arrived first and discovered a Dodge Ram pickup truck with its engine compartment fully engulfed in flames while towing a fifth-wheel camper.
Recognizing the potential danger to the camper, Weiss requested a wrecker to separate the trailer from the burning vehicle and also requested assistance from the Park Hills Fire Department because the incident occurred near the city limits.
The Leadington Fire Department responded to help work the scene.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze before it spread beyond the pickup truck. Officials reported that the fifth-wheel camper was not damaged by the fire.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire has not been released.
