Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) – The Central Rebels collected their first win of the season holding the Jefferson BlueJays to just a touchdown in the 27-7 win.
The Rebels took over possession with nearly four minutes elapsed in the first quarter after Jefferson missed a field goal. On Central’s first offensive opportunity they burned 4:05 off the clock and used 11 plays to find the end zone.
Quarterback Brody Pigg scrambled for a 17-yard rushing TD, his first of three in the win. Pigg kept it himself on the first Rebel drive of the second half, scoring from 27-yards out, and then midway through the fourth he collected nine-yards on a scoring play.
Unofficially, Pigg contributed 121 rushing yards on 14 carries, and completed eight passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Pigg connected with Ryder Kozemski from seven-yards out to break a 7-7 tie just before halftime. Pigg targeted Karras Foster four times for 35 yards, and Brody Kole twice for 38 yards.
Foster carried the ball 19 times for an unofficial total of 139 yards.
Jefferson (0-2) found the endzone on their first play of the second quarter. Sam Kerley found Brandon Crader wide open for a 14-yard touchdown.
Central was lucky to escape the first half with the lead after three separate fumbles were recovered by the Jays. Two stalled drives, and one other on a kick return that would have given the Rebels good field position beyond midfield.
Rebels head coach Kory Schweiss says they have to be better.
The Rebels defense countered in the second half with three forced turnovers. A pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery sparked momentum swings in Central's favor.
Central (1-1) begins MAFC league play at 2-0 Valle Catholic on Friday.
