Farmington and County Warming Shelters

     Officials with the City of Farmington would like to remind citizens that anyone in need of a warming shelter may visit any City of Farmington building that is available to the public during normal business hours. The Farmington City buildings you can access as a warming shelter, and their hours, are City Hall at 110 West Columbia street and the Development Services/City Light and Water building at 101 South Jefferson from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. The City Library at 101 North A Street from 10 am to 9 pm, Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm Friday, and 10 am to 4 pm Saturday. The Farmington Civic Center is also a warming center and can be accessed from 5 am to 9 pm Monday through Friday, 7 am to 6 pm Saturday, and 8 am to 6 pm Sunday. The Farmington Police and Fire Departments downtown can be used for warming 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    The East Missouri Action Agency is working with the city to ensure the Uplift Shelter facility behind the old Mineral Area Hospital at Weber and Wallace Roads will be open for the homeless. It will open overnight starting this Friday from 5pm-7am through the end of February. They also have daytime assistance for people to shower and do laundry at the Farmington Oaks Senior Center Location. Farmington City Officials say if you are aware of someone who is homeless inside the city limits of Farmington, and in need of shelter, notify the Farmington Police Department at 573-431-3131.
    As an extra precaution for all residents of St. Francois County the St. Francois County Ambulance District will be using any of its facilities in the county as a warming shelter. They have stations in Farmington, Park Hills, Bonne Terre, and Bismarck.
