It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph "Joe" Schalk, age 83, who died on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Joe was born on October 29, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri. He worked many years as a logger. He also collected and sold antiques and tractors, where he built strong relationships with many around Fredericktown and across the state. He was also a proud lifetime member of the NRA.
Joe was a family man who spent much of his time with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eva (Braddy) Schalk; one brother, Larry David Schalk; and one sister, Eva Joan (Robert) Pettey.
Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Jean (Blankenship) Schalk; daughter, Melissa (Shawn) Hinkle; grandchildren, Hayley Hinkle, and Mason Hinkle (Alexus Groom). He is also survived by a niece, Bridgett (Omar) Arreola, many other nieces, nephews, family and countless friends.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Madison County Senior Center in Joe's honor. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home - Wilson Chapel in Fredericktown.
