Treasury Secretary Calls Recent Tax Filing Season ‘Historic’

Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - More than a month after Americans completed filing their taxes, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is praising what he describes as a historic tax filing season tied to major tax relief efforts under the Trump administration.

Speaking with reporters at the White House, Bessent said the administration’s policies delivered what he called the “largest tax cuts in American history.”

Bessent highlighted several tax-related policies, including no taxes on Social Security benefits for many seniors. According to Bessent, approximately 85-percent of American seniors paid no taxes. He also pointed to tax deductions connected to loans on American-made vehicles as another benefit aimed at helping consumers and boosting domestic manufacturing.

The administration says the tax measures are designed to provide relief to working Americans, retirees, and families dealing with higher everyday costs.

However, Democrats continue to criticize the administration’s economic policies, especially regarding the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Critics argue the situation has contributed to continued pressure on oil and gas prices, leaving Americans paying more at the pump compared to this time last year.

The debate over taxes, inflation, and energy prices is expected to remain a major political issue heading deeper into the election season.
