Heavy Rain Expected to Improve Drought Conditions

(St. Francois County, MO) A very wet and active weather pattern dampened the Parkland during the first seven days of August. Round after round of heavy rainfall and some severe weather occurred almost every 24 hours. Widespread rainfall totals of 6” to 10” were observed in the area, causing flash flooding concerns. The National Weather Service in St. Louis released rainfall amounts, with Farmington coming in at the top with a total of 9.80” of rainfall. 7.80” of rainfall was observed in Potosi, and 7.48” observed in Irondale. Ste. Genevieve received 6.98” of rainfall in the first seven days of the month. The heavy rainfall that was received is expected to improve the areas drought conditions, which is currently in the moderate category. The next drought monitor update will be released on Thursday.
