Iron County Sheriff Special Election

(Ironton, MO) A special election for the unexpired term of Iron County Sheriff, will be held April 2nd following the resignation of former Sheriff Jeff Burkett. An election notice from the office of Iron County Clerk, Marsha Womble, indicates filing for candidates nominated by political party committees, and for independent candidates, is underway and will continue until Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. A petition signed by at least 89 qualified voters is required to file as an independent candidate for this Special Election. A Declaration of Candidacy form must be submitted with the petition and sworn to by the candidate, in person, before the election authority accepting the petition. Filing for the office will take place in the office of Iron County Clerk Womble, in the Courthouse, 250 South Main, Ironton. The Sheriff's Department's Chuck Helton is acting as interim Sheriff for Iron County after being appointed by Iron County Commissioners.
