Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - A prank 9-1-1 call from a student cell phone on a Farmington school bus led to a law enforcement response Thursday morning.
According to school officials, an abandoned 9-1-1 call was placed from a student’s phone while the bus was in operation. Local law enforcement responded and investigated the situation to determine whether there was an active emergency.
After authorities and school officials looked into the incident, they determined there was no emergency and that all students and staff were safe.
Farmington School District Director of Safety John Krause says the call was determined to be a prank involving multiple students.
District officials are now asking parents to speak with their children about responsible phone use and the seriousness of calling 9-1-1. School leaders say emergency services should only be contacted in real emergencies, as prank calls can divert first responders from situations where help may truly be needed.
Krause says the district also offers resources to help families navigate student technology use, including Parent ProTech.
School officials say student safety remains the district’s number one priority and they appreciate the quick response from law enforcement in helping confirm there was no danger.
