Suspect Arrested in Iron County Burglary Investigation

Iron Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A burglary investigation in Iron County has led to the arrest of an Ironton man.

According to the Iron County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded February 12, 2026 to a reported burglary on Highway AA near Belleview. The victim reported trail camera footage showing a white male in camouflage removing items from a shed and loading them into a silver Ford F-250 with a black hood and tailgate.

Deputies identified the vehicle as one associated with Nicholas Mayes of Ironton. Investigators later recovered several stolen items from a shop at 305 South Valle Street in Pilot Knob with assistance from the Pilot Knob Police Department. The items were returned to the victim, and a witness reported seeing the suspect vehicle leave the area at a high rate of speed. On February 15, a deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description leaving a church parking lot in Middlebrook.

With help from the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department, a felony traffic stop was conducted and Mayes was taken into custody without incident.

Mayes remains in the Iron County Jail with no bond. He has been charged with second-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and stealing property valued over $750, also a Class D felony.
