Orem, Ut. (KFMO) - Missouri lawmakers are speaking out following the shooting death of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk on Wednesday afternoon in Orem, Utah. Authorities say Kirk was shot during an event at a university.
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, writing, “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
Congressman Jason Smith released a statement reflecting on Kirk’s impact, calling him a relentless advocate for free speech and someone who devoted his life to inspiring America’s youth. Smith said Kirk was “a true believer” who lived his faith, opened difficult conversations, and showed how dialogue could help make America stronger. He added that he was deeply saddened by the news of Kirk’s passing, saying the country had lost “a warrior.”
President Trump later posted, "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
Smith also extended his condolences to Kirk’s wife, Erika, and their two children.
