Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accidental death of a one-year-old child that occurred Thursday, January 8, 2026, at a daycare facility located just outside the Potosi city limits.

According to preliminary information, the incident happened when the child slipped through a small opening in a playground toy slide. The child’s head became lodged, restricting the airway and resulting in a loss of oxygen.
