Commission Hearing from Taxpayers on Fines

(Jefferson City, MO) St. Francois County Commissioners are hearing from residents concerning fines they are being assessed for paying their property taxes in what appears to be a late time frame. The issue came up at Tuesday's commission meeting. The Associate Commissioner for District 2 in the county, David Kater, says the problem came about when people put their information in the mail on December 31st and the post office didn't post mark it until January 3rd.

Kater explains when it comes to fines for late taxes, commissioners must follow the rules previously set for the county. The issue has been brought before commissioners at Tuesday's meeting this week and last.
In other business commissioners approved placing the internet use tax, for internet sales, on the April ballot in St. Francois County. A report was also given by St. Francois County Highway Administrator, John Gross, concerning the accomplishments of 2021 and projects the department wants to finish in 2022.
