St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - Hail and damaging winds are the focus Thursday during Missouri Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
Severe thunderstorms can produce destructive straight-line winds and large hail capable of causing significant property damage and serious injury.
The National Weather Service advises residents to:
- Stay indoors during severe storms
- Avoid driving to reduce the risk of injury or vehicle damage
- Stay away from windows
- Treat all downed power lines as energized and dangerous
Even non-tornadic storms can produce winds exceeding 60 miles per hour, strong enough to knock down trees and power lines.
