Farmington Fire Department Urges Heater Safety During Extreme Cold

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - As extreme cold continues across the Parkland, the Farmington Fire Department is reminding residents to use extra caution when operating space heaters and other heating equipment in their homes.

Fire Chief Kyle Carter says many problems linked to space heaters are preventable with proper use and attention.

Carter also urges residents to be cautious when using other types of heat sources, noting that improper operation can quickly lead to dangerous situations.

In addition, the fire department reminds the public to never run portable generators indoors, including inside garages or near open windows or doors. Generators produce carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas that can be extremely dangerous and even deadly.

If a fire does occur, residents are urged to call 911 immediately.
