Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - A Farmington man is facing serious charges following a deadly shooting that occurred over the weekend.
Authorities say 27-year-old Nathan Larson has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting death of 24-year-old Drevon Rawson of Springfield. The incident took place Sunday, July 6, at an apartment complex on Hilltop Place Drive in Farmington.
According to court documents, officers were called to the scene after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found Rawson unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Life-saving efforts were made, but Rawson was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness told investigators she had just dropped Rawson off and was retrieving her phone when Rawson exchanged words with a man in a red shirt, identified as Larson. Shortly after, she heard gunshots and fled to safety. Another resident reported someone banging on her door, screaming for help and claiming someone was trying to rob him. That person, she said, had a black backpack, which was later found next to Rawson’s body.
Larson reportedly told investigators he fired shots to scare Rawson away from his apartment. He said he believed Rawson posed a threat and claimed he fired fatal shots after Rawson appeared to charge at him. However, investigators believe Rawson may have been trying to flee, not attack.
An autopsy showed Rawson suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including injuries to his back and head. The trajectory of the bullets suggests Rawson was lower to the ground, possibly crouching or crawling, when he was shot.
Larson is being held in the St. Francois County Jail on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
