Get Healthy Through Gardening Program Begins at Felix Vallé House in Ste. Genevieve

Ste. Genevieve, Mo. (KFMO) - A new hands-on gardening program focused on improving health and nutrition is set to begin in Ste. Geneviev.e

The “Get Healthy Through Gardening” series will take place at the Felix Vallé House State Historic Site, located at 198 Merchant Street. The eight-week program is presented by the University of Missouri Extension and will guide participants through the process of creating and maintaining a successful home garden.

Throughout the series, attendees will learn about the health benefits of gardening, including how growing fruits and vegetables can support better nutrition and overall wellness. Classes will be held in the backyard of the historic site and are designed to be interactive and educational.

The program begins May 14 with an introductory session titled “Food for Growth,” which covers gardening and nutrition basics. On May 21, participants will learn about garden planning, including how to properly set up raised beds and maximize available space. The May 28 class will focus on understanding seed labels and choosing the right vegetables for planting.

Each class is limited to 15 participants ages 17 and older. Those who attend at least six sessions will have the opportunity to take home a free small appliance during the July 2 class.
