Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall moved across the Parkland early Saturday morning, bringing renewed flooding concerns to areas already dealing with saturated ground from earlier storms this week.
Communities that experienced flooding earlier in the week, including Park Hills, once again saw rising water levels Saturday morning as additional rainfall fell across the region.
According to rainfall reports, Farmington received 1.77 inches of rain, while Weingarten recorded 2.28 inches. Council Bluff saw the highest totals locally, with 2.78 inches of rainfall.
The continued rounds of rain have significantly increased totals over the past week. Since last Saturday, the Farmington Regional Airport has recorded approximately 6 inches of rainfall.
With the ground already saturated, even moderate rainfall can quickly lead to runoff and rising water levels in low-lying areas, creeks, and streams.
Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling and to avoid driving through flooded roadways. Emergency officials remind drivers to follow the safety message: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
