Iron Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 20, on a major sidewalk replacement project surrounding the Iron County Courthouse in Ironton after Iron County received federal funding to help complete the improvements.
The county announced it has been awarded a federal matching grant through the Transportation Alternatives Program, which will cover 75 percent of eligible project costs. Iron County will provide the remaining 25 percent local match.
The courthouse grounds improvement project is designed to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of the courthouse property for residents, visitors, and pedestrians traveling through downtown Ironton.
In addition to replacing aging sidewalks, the project includes curb repairs, pavement replacement, striping, traffic control, and other necessary construction work.
Construction crews will begin work on the front sidewalk of the courthouse on Monday. During the project, the public should expect temporary sidewalk closures, parking impacts, and traffic control measures in the area. County officials say every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and maintain access to courthouse offices throughout construction.
The Iron County Commission says the improvements will provide safer and more accessible walkways while complementing ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the historic courthouse property. Officials also thanked the public for its patience and support as the project moves forward.
