Jefferson County Man Indicted in 2024 Fentanyl Death

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Jefferson County man has been indicted in connection with a fentanyl overdose death that occurred in 2024.

According to court documents, 21-year-old Daryn Joshua Odell Karnes was indicted December 10 on one count of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. The indictment alleges Karnes supplied a mixture containing fentanyl that led to the death of a man in Jefferson County on January 5, 2024.

A motion filed by prosecutors seeking to keep Karnes in custody until trial states the victim and his girlfriend purchased capsules containing a mixture of fentanyl, xylazine, and heroin from an individual known as “Luh Daryn.” Investigators later identified that individual as Karnes, according to the motion.

Federal authorities say the investigation linked the drugs sold to the fatal overdose. No trial date has been announced.
