Madison County Senior Center Announces Immediate Closure Due to Funding Shortfall

Fredericktown, Mo. (KFMO) - The Madison County Senior Center Board has announced the immediate closure of the Madison County Senior Center and its Meal Service Program, citing a persistent and critical lack of funding. All operations will officially cease on October 31, 2025.

The closure marks the end of nearly five decades of service to local seniors. Since opening in 1977, the center has provided more than 31,000 meals annually, offering both nutritional support and a place for social connection for the area’s older residents.

Board members say the decision was made only after exhausting every possible option. They reached out to the Aging Matters Board of Directors seeking potential assistance, but were informed that Aging Matters was unable to provide support due to its own financial instability and restructuring.

The loss is expected to have a significant impact on the community both in terms of daily meals for those who rely on them and as the disappearance of a long-standing community gathering space that has provided companionship and support for decades.

In a statement, the board expressed deep gratitude to the community, volunteers, and supporters who have sustained the center’s operations through years of service.

“We are incredibly grateful for the immense generosity, countless volunteer hours, and unwavering support you have shown over the years,” the board said. “You helped us sustain this vital resource for as long as possible.”
