Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Fire crews across the region have had a busy start to the week, including in Potosi, where a massive brush fire scorched approximately 150 acres late Monday night.
Firefighters worked into the early morning hours to contain the blaze, but dry conditions posed a continuing threat. Those concerns proved valid Tuesday evening when the fire rekindled, prompting another response from area departments. Crews say brush fires can easily flare back up with just a spark and a bit of wind, especially during extended dry spells. Drought conditions continue across the Parkland, increasing the risk of fast-moving fires and making suppression efforts more difficult.
Fire officials urge residents to use extreme caution with any outdoor burning until conditions improve.
