Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri State Senator Mike Henderson of the 3rd District this week presented Senate Bill 902 to the Missouri Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment Committee.
Henderson outlined the purpose of the legislation during his presentation.
A similar version of the bill was heard last year and voted out of committee by a unanimous 6-0 vote. While speaking before the committee, Henderson shared the personal impact of the opioid crisis in his district, including the loss of a teen athlete to opioid use.
According to Henderson, 1,456 opioid-related deaths occurred in Missouri in 2023, accounting for 77.1 percent of all drug overdose fatalities statewide. Senate Bill 902 now moves forward for further consideration.
