Schmitt Says Protect College Sports Act Faces Delay Until After Summer Recess

Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt says the bipartisan Protect College Sports Act is facing delays, with lawmakers unlikely to make significant progress until after the Senate’s summer recess.

The legislation would establish federal rules governing NCAA athletes’ compensation, eligibility and transfer policies.

Schmitt, a Republican from Missouri, discussed the legislation on Fox’s The Ingraham Angle, saying there is not much lawmakers can do to move the measure forward until after the summer recess.

The Protect College Sports Act would create a five-year eligibility window for college athletes and allow athletes one paid transfer. The legislation would also require reporting of name, image and likeness compensation exceeding $600.

The bill has received bipartisan support as lawmakers continue efforts to establish consistent federal rules for college athletics.
