Missouri State Highway Patrol Reminds Drivers and Boaters to Stay Safe During Memorial Day Weekend

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - With Memorial Day weekend quickly approaching, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding Missourians to make safety a priority before heading out on the roadways or waterways.

Sergeant Dallas Thompson says traffic volumes are expected to increase across Missouri during the holiday weekend, even with rising gas prices.

Troopers are encouraging drivers to plan ahead, avoid distractions behind the wheel, buckle up, and never drive while impaired.

The Highway Patrol is also emphasizing the importance of boating and swimming safety as many families prepare to spend time on lakes and rivers during the unofficial start of summer.

Officials are especially encouraging boaters and swimmers to wear life vests, noting that life jackets continue to save lives each year in water-related emergencies.

The Patrol plans to have additional enforcement and safety efforts in place throughout the Memorial Day holiday weekend to help keep travelers safe across Missouri.
