Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - With winter weather in full swing, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging drivers to take extra precautions on icy roads. Corporal Dallas Thompson emphasizes the importance of slowing down to avoid accidents.

The Highway Patrol also advises increasing your following distance, keeping your headlights on, and ensuring your vehicle is winter-ready with proper tires and a full tank of gas.

Thompson says that a good tool to use, if you have to travel in wintry type of weather, is the Missouri Department of Transportation Traveler Map
