St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - A former teacher with the Farmington School District is now facing a federal charge in connection to a child pornography investigation.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Koester, a federal grand jury last week indicted 36-year-old Erika Morton on one count of receipt of child pornography. The charge stems from alleged incidents that occurred between January and June of this year. The Missouri State Highway Patrol began investigating Morton after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The report alleged that an online user, later identified as Morton, had uploaded child pornography and shared the videos during online conversations with other users.
Morton was originally charged at the state level in Ste. Genevieve County in June. However, that case has been dropped now that federal charges have been filed. She is currently in federal custody.
Morton had been employed at the Truman Learning Center in the Farmington School District but was terminated from her position in June.
