MoDOT Plans Seal Coat Improvements on Route A in Ste. Genevieve County

Ste. Genevieve Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Drivers in Ste. Genevieve County should expect delays next week as the Missouri Department of Transportation completes driving surface improvements on Route A.

The project will cover Route A from Route 32 to Route 61. Weather permitting, crews will work Tuesday, July 7 through Thursday, July 9 from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.

During the work, a 10-foot width restriction will be in effect, and a pilot car will guide traffic through the work zone.

MoDOT says the project will use a seal coat treatment, which is commonly applied to lower-volume roads to extend pavement life while maximizing maintenance resources. The process involves spraying hot emulsion oil onto the roadway, applying finely crushed rock, and compacting the material so it bonds to the surface. Excess material is then swept away.

According to MoDOT, seal coats cost roughly one-third of a traditional asphalt overlay while helping prevent water from penetrating the pavement, extending roadway life by up to seven years, and improving traction for motorists.

The work zone will be marked with signs, and drivers are encouraged to slow down and use extreme caution when traveling through the area.
