MoDOT to Improve Route DD in Ste. Genevieve and Jefferson Counties July 6-7

Ste. Genevieve Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Motorists traveling through Ste. Genevieve and Jefferson counties should prepare for temporary traffic delays next week as the Missouri Department of Transportation performs driving surface improvements on Route DD.

Weather permitting, MoDOT crews will be working Monday, July 6, and Tuesday, July 7, from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day on Route DD between Interstate 55 in Ste. Genevieve County and Route T in Jefferson County.

During construction, a 10-foot width restriction will be in effect, and a pilot car will direct traffic safely through the work zone. Drivers should expect slower travel times and are encouraged to use caution when approaching the area.

The project involves applying a seal coat, a pavement preservation treatment commonly used on lower-volume roadways. The process includes spraying hot emulsion oil onto the pavement, covering it with finely crushed rock, and compacting the material to create a durable driving surface. Once the treatment is complete, excess rock is swept away.

According to MoDOT, seal coats help prevent water from penetrating the roadway, improve traction, and can extend pavement life by as much as seven years. The treatment also costs approximately one-third as much as a traditional asphalt overlay, allowing the department to stretch available maintenance dollars.

Work zones will be marked with signs, and motorists are reminded to slow down, follow directions from the pilot car, and use extreme caution while traveling through the area.
