MoDOT Urges Caution as Roadwork Season Begins in Missouri

St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - Roadwork season is now underway across Missouri, and transportation officials are reminding drivers to stay alert behind the wheel...

The Missouri Department of Transportation is urging motorists to use caution in work zones following a recent accident involving a distracted driver and a MoDOT vehicle.

MoDOT Maintenance Worker Ralph Koch says the incident happened when a driver struck the back end of a MoDOT vehicle while crews were working along a roadway.

According to Koch, the driver admitted to authorities that they were using their phone at the time of the crash. The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly distractions can lead to dangerous situations in active work zones.

Koch says for MoDOT workers, the priority is simple, making it home safely at the end of each day.

MoDOT is encouraging drivers to take extra precautions when traveling through work zones, including reducing speed, staying focused on the road, and avoiding impaired driving.

Officials stress that even a moment of distraction can have serious consequences for both drivers and road crews.
