Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released preliminary statistics from the 2026 Memorial Day holiday weekend, reporting eight traffic fatalities statewide during the four-day counting period.
According to the Patrol, troopers investigated 234 traffic crashes between 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, and 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2026. Those crashes resulted in 99 injuries and eight deaths across Missouri.
In addition to crash investigations, troopers made 107 driving while intoxicated arrests during the holiday enforcement period.
On Missouri waterways, the Highway Patrol investigated four boating crashes involving six injuries. Officials reported zero boating fatalities and zero drownings statewide during the holiday weekend. Troopers also arrested seven people for boating while intoxicated.
The Patrol compared this year’s statistics to the 2025 Memorial Day holiday period, when troopers investigated 203 traffic crashes involving three fatalities and 92 injuries. Statewide in 2025, four people were killed and 356 injured in 868 vehicle crashes during the holiday reporting period. Troopers also investigated three boating crashes across Missouri last year.
