Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Thunderstorms are expected to develop across much of the Parkland this afternoon and evening, with the potential for a few storms to become severe. The greatest threat is expected across southeastern Missouri between 2 and 8 p.m., and between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. across the Parkland.
According to the National Weather Service, the main hazards with any severe storms will be large hail and damaging winds. Hail sizes could range from quarter to golf ball size, while wind gusts may exceed 60 miles per hour.
Earlier in the day on Tuesday, April 28, Springfield, Mo. received greater than 4" diameter hail.
Northern portions of the Parkland are currently under a marginal risk for severe weather, while the southern half of the region is under a slight risk. This means stronger storms are more likely in southern areas, though severe weather cannot be ruled out anywhere in the region.
Forecasters note that confidence remains low for tornado development, as the atmospheric ingredients needed for tornadoes may not fully come together. However, residents are still encouraged to stay alert and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued.
