St. Francois County Sheriff's Department Unveils New Deputy Uniforms

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Residents interacting with members of the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department may notice a new look as deputies begin wearing the department's newly redesigned uniforms.

The department has officially transitioned from its longtime traditional brown uniforms to a modern black-and-tan design. Officials say the update represents an important step in the department's continued modernization while maintaining respect for its long-standing traditions.

The new uniforms were designed with both functionality and professional appearance in mind. They are made from high-performance materials intended to support deputies in every assignment, including work in the Adult Detention Center, courthouse security, civil enforcement, and community engagement.

One of the most significant upgrades is the addition of an outer vest carrier. The new design redistributes the weight of duty equipment from deputies' hips and lower backs to their shoulders and torso. According to the department, the change helps reduce physical strain, lowers the risk of long-term injuries, improves comfort during extended shifts, and allows deputies quicker access to essential equipment.

Deputies are also wearing moisture-wicking base-layer shirts beneath the vest carriers to improve breathability and comfort throughout the workday.

In addition, the department has replaced its traditional brown uniform pants with black pants constructed from upgraded materials that offer improved tear resistance, moisture-wicking performance, breathability, and water repellency, providing increased durability and comfort in the field.

Along with the uniform redesign, the Sheriff's Department has introduced a new department sleeve patch. The patch was selected from several designs submitted by deputies and was created to honor the history, heritage, and pride of the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department.
