St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri voters have had the opportunity to cast absentee and early ballots over the past several weeks, but Election Day voting takes place Tuesday, August 4.
In St. Francois County, voters will select party nominees in several races while also deciding four proposed amendments to the Missouri Constitution.
What's on the statewide ballot?
Constitutional Amendment 1
Voters will decide whether to continue the existing one-tenth of one percent sales and use tax that funds Missouri state parks, historic sites, and soil and water conservation programs for another 10 years. If approved, the tax would again be submitted to voters after the 10-year period.
Constitutional Amendment 2
This proposal would require all Missouri charter counties to elect their county assessor rather than allowing appointment where currently permitted.
Constitutional Amendment 4
This amendment would change the approval process for citizen-led constitutional amendments by requiring not only a statewide majority but also majority approval in each of Missouri's congressional districts. The proposal also includes provisions prohibiting certain foreign contributions to ballot measure campaigns, increasing penalties for petition fraud, and making the full text of initiative petitions available to voters.
Constitutional Amendment 5
Voters will decide whether to begin phasing out Missouri's individual state income tax. The amendment would also allow the General Assembly to increase or implement sales taxes to replace revenue lost through the income tax phaseout.
Election officials encourage voters to review a sample ballot before arriving at their polling place to help speed up the voting process and better understand each proposal.
Voters should also be aware that St. Francois County implemented a new countywide voting center system earlier this year. Instead of voting at one of the county's former neighborhood precincts, registered voters may cast their ballot at any of three designated voting centers on Election Day. The change was made to improve accessibility, simplify the voting process and take advantage of new ballot-printing technology that can produce the correct ballot style for each voter based on their registered address.
The four Election Day voting centers are:
- North County High School
- 7151 Raider Road, Bonne Terre
- Mineral Area College
- 5270 Flat River Road, Park Hills
- Weber Road Voting Center
- 1101 Weber Road, Farmington
- First State Community Center
- 2 Black Knight Drive, Farmington
All four locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early in-person absentee voting has been available only at the Weber Road Voting Center.
Polls across Missouri will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4. Any voter who is in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote. Sample ballots and the full text of the ballot measures are available through the St. Francois County Clerk's Office.
