St. Francois County Woman Charged After Dog Shot, Owner Allegedly Assaulted in Iron Mountain Lake

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A St. Francois County woman has been charged after authorities say she shot a neighbor's dog and allegedly assaulted the dog's owner during an incident in Iron Mountain Lake.

According to the St. Francois County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to Iron Mountain Lake at approximately 9 a.m. on Friday, July 3, following a report of a dog being shot by a neighbor.

Investigators say a woman was walking her two dogs in a creek when a neighbor allegedly entered the creek, dragged one of the dogs onto her property, and shot the animal twice. The dog later died from its injuries.

The dog's owner also told deputies the suspect struck her in the head and attempted to hold her underwater during the encounter.

Deputies identified the suspect as 39-year-old Tosha Bohannon. Following the investigation, Bohannon was arrested and charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Animal Abuse.

The case remains under investigation.
