Suspect Killed After Madison County Officer-Involved Shooting

Madison Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in Madison County following a disturbance call and vehicle pursuit.

According to Madison County Sheriff Nic Adams, dispatch received a report of a disturbance at a residence in Cobalt Village at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday. While Sheriff Adams was responding to the scene, dispatch advised that one of the individuals involved had already fled the area in a vehicle.

Law enforcement officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield, leading officers on a pursuit. Authorities say the pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped at a nearby residence, with officers arriving immediately behind it and initiating a felony stop.

During that encounter, Sheriff Adams says the suspect produced a firearm. Officers reportedly gave repeated commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, but the suspect refused and pointed the firearm toward officers.

At that point, officers discharged their weapons while seeking cover from the armed suspect.

The Fredericktown Fire Department was called in to assist by deploying a drone to safely assess the scene. According to the sheriff, drone footage confirmed the suspect was down. Officers then made a tactical approach and found the suspect had died from injuries sustained during the incident.

As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control has been requested to conduct an independent investigation.

The incident remains under active investigation, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available. Authorities are also asking the public to avoid speculation while the investigation continues.
