St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A 16-year-old Bonne Terre boy was killed and a 45-year-old Bonne Terre woman suffered serious injuries in a fiery two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 67 in St. Francois County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m. on August 6 at the intersection of southbound U.S. Highway 67 and Shannon Road.
Investigators say a 1987 Ford F-150, driven by the 16-year-old, was stopped on Shannon Road waiting to cross the highway and travel northbound. As a southbound 2013 Audi Q-7 approached the intersection, the pickup entered the roadway and failed to yield, driving into the Audi's path.
The front of the Audi struck the driver's side of the pickup. The impact sent both vehicles across the northbound lanes and off the east side of the highway, where they traveled down an embankment and caught fire.
The teenage driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Audi, a 45-year-old Bonne Terre woman who was wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries. She was transported by the St. Francois County Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment.
Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene.
