Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Leadco Community Credit Union is reassuring members that their accounts remain a top priority after Farmington police arrested two men accused of installing an ATM skimming device at the credit union's Farmington location.
According to the Farmington Police Department, officers responded to Leadco Community Credit Union at 551 East Karsch Boulevard at approximately 4:46 a.m. on July 14 after receiving a report of suspicious activity involving the automated teller machine.
As officers arrived, they stopped a red 2009 Toyota Camry leaving the property. Investigators say the vehicle's two occupants had gained access to the ATM using a key found in their possession and had installed a skimming device designed to capture customers' debit and credit card information.
Police also determined the suspects were in possession of a vehicle reported stolen from Chicago, Illinois.
Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Francois County Jail. Authorities have requested charges of Tampering in the First Degree and Felony Stealing against both individuals.
Investigators also reported the suspects were unlawfully present in the United States, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed detainers on both men.
In a statement following the arrests, Leadco Community Credit Union thanked the Farmington Police Department for its quick response and said only a small number of members have been affected by the incident so far.
The credit union is encouraging all members to closely monitor their accounts while staff continues to watch for any suspicious activity. Officials say they are working to restore ATM service as quickly as possible.
Until Leadco's ATMs are back in operation, members who need to use another ATM are asked to keep their receipts. The credit union says it will reimburse ATM fees incurred during the outage.
Leadco also apologized for the inconvenience and emphasized that it is doing everything possible to protect members' accounts and financial information.
The Farmington Police Department says the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
