Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Unico Bank is alerting customers to a scam involving fraudulent phone calls from individuals pretending to be from a bank’s fraud department.
According to Unico Bank, its card processor reported that customers at another financial institution received calls from fraudsters attempting to obtain sensitive card information. The callers asked victims to provide full card numbers, expiration dates, CVV security codes, and PIN numbers. In some cases, the fraudsters also instructed customers to respond to follow-up text messages by indicating that suspicious transactions were not fraudulent.
Unico Bank emphasizes that its fraud department will never ask customers to provide their card’s expiration date, CVV code, or PIN number over the phone.
Customers who receive a call claiming to be from Unico Bank’s fraud department and have any doubts are advised to hang up immediately and call the bank directly using a trusted phone number.
If the call occurs after normal business hours and a bank representative is unavailable, customers can log into the Unico Bank mobile app and turn their card “off” to prevent any fraudulent transactions until they are able to speak with bank staff.
Unico Bank encourages customers to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious calls to the bank as soon as possible.
