Vandals Damage Road Signs in St. Francois County, Replacement Cost Estimated at $3,000

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - St. Francois County officials are asking residents to help identify those responsible after multiple road signs were vandalized in recent days.

According to County Road and Bridge Supervisor Brian Long, the vandalism occurred along Old Fredericktown Road and Denman Road. County road crews attempted to remove the graffiti from the affected signs, but the damage could not be repaired.

Because the signs cannot be restored, they will need to be replaced at an estimated cost of approximately $3,000.

County officials are asking anyone who may have information about the vandalism or who witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact the St. Francois County Road and Bridge Department at 573-454-3104 or the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department.

Officials remind residents that vandalizing traffic signs creates an unnecessary expense for taxpayers and can also pose a safety hazard for motorists.
