Winter Storm Brings Hundreds of Crashes, One Fatality Across Missouri

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The early December winter storm that swept across Missouri on Monday resulted in significant travel disruptions, hundreds of crashes, and one confirmed fatality, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The patrol responded to 817 calls for service, assisted 214 stranded motorists, and investigated 358 crashes on Monday, December 1, 2025. The hazardous road conditions also led to 41 injuries and one fatality. The deadly crash occurred in Jefferson County just before 2 p.m. on northbound Interstate 55, north of Imperial Main Street. According to the online crash report, a 54-year-old man from Pevely was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger when he lost control on the slick roadway. The truck slid and rotated before striking the rear of a stationary fire truck that was parked in the right lane with its emergency lights activated. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The fire truck, a 2021 Pierce pumper, was unoccupied at the time of the collision. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to urge motorists to use extreme caution while traveling during winter weather events, as even minor accumulations can quickly create hazardous conditions.
