County Discusses Senate Bill 190

(Farmington, MO) Missouri's Senate Bill 190 is being studied by county officials across the state to see how the bill, which is now law, can be implemented since there are no details on most aspects of  the changes proposed in the measure involving property tax relief for seniors. The issue was a part of Tuesday's public comments section at this week's St. Francois County Commission meeting and County Clerk, Kevin Engler, told the crowd one issue to address is just who the tax relief is really for.

According to Engler some counties are assuming the intent of the new law and will move forward with implementing it. Engler explains St. Francois County Commissioners are taking a cautionary approach and will adopt the new law once the measure has been vetted. State Lawmakers are expected to make clarifications to the bill. Counties may opt out of the tax relief measure for seniors if they wish.
