Fire Destroys Historic Farmington Home

(Farmington, MO) A landmark historic home on Liberty Street in Farmington is a total loss after a fire Sunday night. Firemen were called out to 917 West Liberty Street at 11:39. Farmington Fire Chief, Todd Mecey, says the home was heavily involved with flames when they arrived.

According to Mecey there was one resident at home at the time of the fire. He was not injured and there were no injuries to firemen. Mecey says they don't know exactly what started the fire but it is under investigation. After a short period of fighting the fire Mecey says he struck a second alarm bringing in other departments to assist including the Wolf Creek, Doe Run, Leadington, Big River Bonne Terre, and Bismarck fire departments. The home that was a part of the old Harrington farm, in the city limits, and had been at the site for around 100 years.
