National POW MIA Recognition Day is Friday

(St. Francois County, MO) National POW MIA Recognition day is Friday and there are several ceremonies in the area to commemorate Americans who are listed as missing in action. More than 72,000 Americans are MIA from WWII, that includes 2,052 Missourians, more than 7,800 Americans are MIA from Korea, that includes 196 Missourians, today there are 126 Americans MIA from the Cold War, that includes 4 Missourians, more than 1,500 Americans are MIA from Vietnam, that includes 35 Missourians. Which means that there are almost 2,300 Missouri families still waiting for closure as to the fate of their loved ones. There are several ceremonies throughout the Parkland this weekend to remember those who are MIA and those who were Prisoners of War. Friday ceremonies will be held at the Festus VFW at 4 pm, the Bismarck VFW at 5 pm, and the Desloge VFW at 6 pm. Saturday will feature ceremonies at the DeSoto VFW at 10 am, the Farmington VFW at 11 o'clock, and the Leadington VFW at 1 pm.
