New Standards for Farmer's Markets

(St. Francois County, MO.) With the first phase of recovery out of the coronavirus pandemic in Missouri about to begin, Farmer's Markets have undergone some changes as they continue to serve the public. The markets are considered an essential business and as such have had to institute new ways of doing things to help deter the virus. A Horticultural Food Specialist with the University of Missouri, Debi Kelly, says the markets are doing many things that grocery stores and other venues are doing.

Kelly also says the current setup includes one person bagging produce while another deals with taking payment. According to Kelly masks and gloves are usually required by market workers plus you'll also find extra hand washing stations. Area farmers markets have had to submit a plan of operations to county health departments.
